When we begin to see our experiences in a different light, then a real breakthrough occurs in our lives. We do what we believe, we believe what we do. Real and lasting success is achieved by companies that are consistently guided by their values that are important to them.
1. High quality of life for employees
Providing your employees with a motivating work environment. Create an environment in which employees see that their work is aimed at achieving the goals of the organization and it is in their interest to do it best.
2. High quality of products and services
You need to offer the best so that customers sincerely praise it, feel proud to use your company’s products and services.
3. High customer care
You must treat your customers in such a way that they become die-hard fans of your products and services, fanatics, they must love and adore them above all else.
You have to dig deeper to the level of your inner values.
What key values, yours or your organization, will guide and shape the way you achieve your goal?
When you identify these values, ask yourself: How do you demonstrate these values in your daily dealings with the world, that is, what do you do to express them.
Management by value consists of three stages
– Specifying the mission or purpose and values
– Specifying the mission or purpose and values
– Align daily practices with mission with values
The three acts of life (they must all function together).
– Achieve
– Connect
– Integrate
– The value offered by the organization must be compatible with people, which means that what is a value in the organization must also be a value for employees and people.
– Before you start introducing values in your organization, start with yourself first. From establishing your own values and consistently putting them into practice.
– Find the value connecting people, making them able to commit themselves to working towards achieving common goals. This is the best way to attract people, it works like a magnet.
– Only values can be conveyed to a group of people, and only these can make them unite like these petals (from the cubic box described in the book).
It is not thanks to organizations that management by values works, but thanks to people.
‚When we truly dedicate ourselves to something, providence supports us’ – Goethe
Concentration and focus on action, not results.
Athletes focus on the game, not the outcome itself
Don’t keep looking at the scoreboards, but focus on the action / game. And the scoreboard will take care of itself.
Phase 1: Defining Mission or Purpose and Values.
Phase 2: Communicating your mission and values.
Phase 3: Align daily practices with mission and values.
The rule of thumb is to start with yourself first. Establish your values and mission in life. Then start organizing.
– Determine from which key values (no more than 5) the business strategy and tactics should flow.
– With what values is to be associated and perceived the company, yourself and all activities.
– Consider whether the mission reflects these values.
– Values must be clear, easy to understand, direct and in line with the vision of the organization.
– Remember that values have to mature and it takes time. Even when you feel that everything is fine, over time you may find that the values need to be improved. You create values together with people.
– Values are what builds the entire company, just like personal values build people. These established values are a compass for future actions and decisions. These values are a magnet that attracts other people (employees, customers, partners, etc.)
– Values must be important from the point of view of society. They need to make people connect them with their actual lives, share these values and identify with them, otherwise it will be pointless.
Successful companies focus on certain values in their lives, but also on the values offered to their clients. What you are offering must be:
Worth their money
Worth their attention
Worth their time
These days, even the highest quality of a product or service is not enough, you have to make it damn valuable to a specific group of people. Then they will see you. That is why every element of the company must focus on giving value to people in the form of what you offer. What valuable benefits will people gain from what you give them?
– You will achieve real success when the values are not only for show, but are consistently put into practice in everyday activities.
– Consistent demonstration and expression of these values and mission in daily work.
– Being guided by established values when acting and making key decisions.
– The important thing is to be ready to act in accordance with your values.
Ways of expressing it in the company: hanging large inscriptions with values everywhere, daily team meetings, treating each other equally, no matter if employee or manager, public awarding of awards.
Ordinary people, united around common values and missions, achieve remarkable results.
It is nothing more than everyday activities in line with these values. Actions and expression of these values, i.e. the alignment of everyday practices with the mission and values, constitute 80% of the entire process.
3 approaches commonly used to determine if something is out of tune:
– customer satisfaction interviews and focus groups.
– managerial assessments and feedback-based tools.
– conducting employee and customer surveys on the company’s practices.
Good communication is based on mutual understanding
Supporting words with deeds is a constant journey
– In my opinion, this is another element of success. VALUE itself is important to people.
– I also see that the definition of key values is a compass that sets the direction in which the organization is to operate, what should be followed when solving problems and conflicts, and how to make decisions with good results.
– The book shows how important it is and can be to align personal values with the values of the organization you are building.
The article is a small part of my private notes and entries from the book ‚Ken Blanchard – Value Management’.
